Governing Body – The Trent-Rylands Federation

Trent Vale Infant and Nursery School and Beeston Rylands Junior School are federated and known as The Trent-Rylands Federation. While the schools continue to be separate with their own individual names they have one governing body . The schools are jointly led by one Executive Headteacher, Mrs Jackie Moss. Mrs Janine Barratt and Mrs Catherine Turner are Co-Heads of School at Trent Vale Infant and Nursery School and Mrs Sue Osborne is Head of School at Beeston Rylands Junior School.

The Governing Body is very active and is involved in all areas of school life. The Full Governing Body meets once a term and there are additional committee meetings held termly to manage finance, health and safety, pupil, personnel and curriculum issues. The Governing Body also regularly monitors the progress pupils are making and the progress the school is making with regard to its school improvement priorities. Membership of this important body includes elected parents and teacher representatives as well as members co-opted by the Governing Body and those nominated by the Local Authority. This ensures the Governing Body has the full range of necessary skills.

Resources Committee – Discusses the school’s budget, staffing issues, health and safety and the general management and organisation of the school.

Pupil Outcomes Committee – Discusses pupil progress, attainment and other related pupil issues, the curriculum and the priorities identified in the school improvement plan.

Pay Committee Following the outcomes of the appraisal process this committee decides if staff are eligible to be awarded pay increases.

Discipline Committee – This committee would oversee the process if a child was excluded.

A motivated and passionate individual who has enthusiasm and drive to succeed. I chose to move into social housing to be able to make a difference and influence key decisions in social housing. My main driver for wanting to be a school governor is to be able to have an input for our future generation and give back to my own community. I want to be involved in shaping children’s education for the better and the challenges that face this currently are greater than ever. I feel my
career path and being a school governor have many synergies and together these compliment each other. I enjoy getting the best out of people, being a mentor for younger members of staff and developing members of my team on a regular basis I feel we have a responsibility to the future workforce to guide and support to achieve the best possible outcome for the individual.
